ABOUT TRAVIS PARMAN, APR
One of PR Week’s top U.S. professionals, Travis Parman has earned his stripes – nationally and internationally – across a number of industries in the corporate communications world.

His 20-year career includes local, regional and national campaigns for companies in aerospace, defense and government, automotive, consumer banking, home building and healthcare. For each, Travis demonstrated an ability to evaluate a broad range of target audiences to develop messaging that resonates, ultimately leading to behavior change and driving business results — not to mention a spot on PR Week’s “40 under 40” list in 2009.

A native Southerner now based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Travis most recently served as vice president of corporate communications for PulteGroup (PHM), the nation’s largest homebuilder. In this role, he developed a consumer media program that boosted Web and community foot traffic more than 60 percent for some communities. His integrated social media strategy increased customer and prospect engagement by 50 percent. He also created the first industry-wide response strategy to handle an aggressive union campaign.

Previously, Travis led community relations, philanthropy and public relations efforts for Ally Financial and Ally Bank, driving implementation of the major rebranding of GMAC to Ally. He modernized their financial literacy program and launched their social media activity.

The bulk of Travis’ career is in automotive with General Motors where he ultimately led the Northeast Region PR office in Manhattan. Specializing in premium lifestyle magazine placements, Travis was responsible for national and local broadcast, print, online and social media based on the East coast, along with grassroots efforts. Before that he managed brand communications at Chevrolet during the launch of the American Revolution campaign that introduced 10 vehicles in 20 months.

He also has extensive experience in culturally sensitive diversity communications, having developed a template for all segments based on his work directing GM’s LGBT media outreach, which earned national recognition.

While at GM, Travis also held significant internal communications roles, including a UK assignment where he advised the fast-track deployment of common employee communications practices across seven countries in Europe with emphasis on a turnaround facility in England. In addition to driving employee communications in union manufacturing environments, he developed the global internal communications strategy for GM’s chief information officer.

Prior to GM, Travis held positions with Lockheed Martin where he addressed change-management issues and handled science and technical communications for Department of Energy activities.

Travis is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, having earned the APR credential in 1998. He earned a B.S. in Communications at the University of Tennessee and currently is pursuing an M.S. in Communications Management from the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

On the personal side, Travis has discovered that the beauty of northern Michigan reminds him of the hills of Tennessee where he grew up. He spends as much time there as he can with horses and rescue mutts cultivating a hobby farm around a 1930s hunting lodge near Alpena. If you’re in the area, he’s quick to offer snowmobile rides, boat tours around the lake or a bag of heirloom tomatoes—depending on the season.
